the tl;dr bullet point version until i have time to write it all out:

— dystopian near-future city run by two opposing forces, the mob and the mafia
— both groups were underground well-known secrets that nobody really discussed until a head mafia boss was elected to office by an unknowing public, he revealed himself, and the mafia started a borderline terroristic regime based on fear and violence
— wow this city sucks
— both gangs are Rich and everyone else can go fuck themselves basically

— ji is a mid-twenty-something loner who's been an orphan since he was born, being passed around from foster home to foster home as a kid where he had to learn how to fight
— dropped out of high school when shit hit the fan and the city descended into chaos
— works as essentially a hitman for hire, though his prices vary based on the degree of a beatdown the client wants for their target of choice.
— hates the mafia and hates the mob in equal measure, but desperate times call for desperate measures and he'll take whatever jobs he has to in order to survive; he doesn't take sides.
— has a nearly all-black german shepherd named chul who's a fierce attack dog when needed, Huge cuddle monster when it's just him and ji. he is pretty sure that they've both had similarly rough lives.
— a man of very little words if he can help it.
— resists human attachments as much as he can on the basis of not knowing who his next target is; learned this lesson the hard way when he was young and new to this and he casually befriended a previous client after kicking his high school bully's ass. he was then hired by a high-ranking mafia head to take out said previous client for being a high-ranking mob boss's son. it was money he couldn't pass up, dirty money, money that he still lives off of to this day.
